Process

1. Project Approved

Race Communications stakeholders approve a project after completing market research, analysis, and close communication with municipalities, permitting offices, and partners. Race will then meet with all parties involved, including engineers and construction crews.

2. Engineering

Race surveys and tests the existing infrastructure to create CAD (computer-aided design) designs to display the layout of construction and the new fiber community.

3. Permitting

Race applies for permits allowing the procurement of space on utility poles. Permitting must be approved before moving into the construction phase.

4. Construction

Steel cables are attached to utility poles to attach fiber optic cables to them. The fiber optic cables are run from a centralized node that provides the laser light signal that will be converted into an Internet signal.

5. Test Splice’n Drop

A smaller “fiber drop cable” is run to the home either aerially or underground (depending on the site survey), and then the equipment is installed before testing the signal.

6. Final Installation

An ONT (Optical Network Terminal) that converts the laser light from the fiber to electrical signals is installed and connected to a router inside the home. An Internet connection from the router can come from either a hardwire or WiFi.

No, our plans are truly unlimited so you are free to use your Internet whenever and however you want. Please note, if we find that you are using our services for illegal activities, spamming, or in any way that negatively impacts other members of the Race community, we will take the actions necessary to prevent you from doing so.

2. Will I be able to use Wi-Fi with Race Fiber?

Absolutely! Race offers a wireless router option at the time of sign-up.  Race also offers whole home Mesh Wi-iFi extenders! These units ensure you can use your high-speed Race internet wirelessly throughout your home!

3. If I choose to get a new phone number from Race, what will my prefix be?
