Case Study: Mojave Air and Spaceport

In today’s connected world, reliable, high-speed Internet is an absolute necessity, and that is the core mission at Race Communications – to bring reliable, affordable connectivity to homes and businesses.

About Race

At Race, our ever-expanding fiber footprint has not only provided 12,000 homes across California with high-speed Internet but to our business and enterprise customers as well.

With clients such as The LA Clippers, Wells Fargo, and Google, Race has a competitive product line offering of fiber Internet, TV, and phone with symmetrical speeds as much as 1000 times faster than local cable providers.

In addition, Race has always partnered with public and private entities, municipalities, and commercial developers to bring innovative fiber technologies that enhance local businesses and communities.

Background

Nestled in charming Kern County, the Mojave Air and Spaceport was once a bustling town due to the 1930s gold and silver mining industry. Not to mention, it served as an Auxiliary Air Station for the Marine Corps during World War II.

With so much rich history, it’s no wonder why so much innovation exists there today.

Currently, the Mojave Air and Spaceport is home to more than 60 companies that engage in flight development and aerospace design, flight testing and research. But innovation wasn’t always the focal point nor available.

Problem

Many of the companies located at the Mojave Air and Spaceport were in need of better infrastructure in order to be able to stay connected to their global corporate locations. Despite a growing space industry, both nationally and internationally, expanding the research and development industry at the air and spaceport was not a sustainable project in the Mojave region due to virtually non-existing infrastructure. Until Race came along.

Solution

After securing CPUC funding, Race worked effortlessly to bring a fiber-based solution to the Mojave Airport which was completed in 2009.

Once the pool of connectivity was tapped into, it opened the doors for expansion. From there, Race was able to bring and retain many high-tech companies. Many of these companies were once confined to the four walls of their offices, but once Race provided fiber optic connectivity, the telecommute possibilities have become infinite and their work stretches across the globe.

As of today, our clients at Mojave Air and Spaceport include: Scaled Composite, Northrop Grumman, Stratolaunch, Virgin Galactic, Masten Space Systems, EDP Renewables, X Cor and National Test Pilot School.
